Unplug is a collaboration between the Social Media Research Institute (SMRI) and the Purpose Outreach Center (TPOC) in support of joint workshops and a peer-to-peer mentorship program.

Social Media First Aid is not intended to replace professional mental health services or emergency interventions but rather acts as an immediate response to offer support, empathy, and guidance during crisis situations on social media. It aims to bridge the gap between the moment of distress and the availability of formal help, ensuring individuals feel heard and understood while encouraging them to seek appropriate assistance.

Finding Balance through Education

Teaching strategies that support elementary, middle, and high school students using tools to balance their life with social media.

Social Media Literacy

The ability to use social media responsibly: fact-checking, spotting fake news, protecting privacy, and practicing safe online behavior.

Social Media Awareness

Understanding the impact of social media on mental health, relationships, and privacy. It's about being mindful of what you share and how you 
engage online.

Social Media Addiction/ Dependency Disorder

Excessive social media use that disrupts daily life and mental well-being. It affects routines, focus, and the ability to unplug even when it causes harm.

Our Programs

Learn to connect, become a better person, through community engagement, social involvement, and mentorship. Unplug is meant to create well-balanced people navigate the world and to become future leaders.

See if your child is eligible for Unplug Mentorship Program

The Unplug mentorship program is curated for youth in 3rd-12th grade who may qualify for free/reduced lunch, could benefit from a positive adult role model, may struggle in school, and/or have low self-esteem. In order to participate in this mentoring program a child must have a least one risk factor mentioned above. if your child is accepted as a mentee or mentoring will occur at least once a month within the community or child's school. Please complete the form to be considered for the mentorship program.
